Purchase Enfamil Formula When Available

October 20, 2022
Colorado WIC

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is allowing Colorado WIC to offer more formula brands and larger sizes during the formula shortage. When formulas are more available, these temporary formula options will end. While formula availability is not back to normal, it continues to improve. To prepare for this change, we encourage Colorado WIC participants to buy the Enfamil formula listed on their food benefits when available. If your food benefits include one of the Enfamil powdered formulas listed below, and it’s available at the store, please use your eWIC card to buy it before choosing one of the other temporary formula options:

  • Enfamil Infant Powder
  • Enfamil Gentlease Powder
  • Enfamil Prosobee Powder
  • Enfamil Reguline Powder
  • Enfamil A.R. Powder

If the Enfamil formula on your food benefits is not available at the store, you may continue to purchase one of the temporary formula options until the USDA flexibilities end.

Are specialty formulas for babies and kids with medical needs still available through Colorado WIC?

Yes, babies and kids receiving specialty formulas for medical reasons prescribed by a doctor can continue to receive these formulas. For a list of specialty formulas available through Colorado WIC, click here.

If I switch to a WIC Enfamil formula, will my baby notice the change?

Your baby will probably do just fine with different formulas as long as they are the same type. For example, sticking with cow’s milk-based formula if your baby tolerates it well. If your baby doesn’t seem to like the taste or has a hard time tolerating a different formula, you may want to try gradually introducing small amounts of the new formula mixed with the usual formula. Slowly increase the amount of the new formula.

Be patient, since it may take some time for your baby to get used to a new formula. If you have questions about whether your baby is tolerating the new formula, call your pediatrician.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call your local WIC clinic.
